Stakeholders of the sugar industry will gather anew for a Sugar
Forum on April 20, 5 p.m. at the Grand Regal Hotel in Bacolod City,
co-convenor Rafael Golez said in a press release.
Sugar producers, planters and millers are enjoined to attend
the forum. There is no fee; the forum will be on a pay as you order
basis. Sugar Regulatory Administration chief James Ledesma will
have a presentation on the state of the sugar industry, including
the expected current crop year production, price trends, supply
and demand movements and the prospects for the next crop year 2007-2008.
Fernando Corpus, SRA manager of research, development and
extension for Luzon and Mindanao, will make a presentation on the
technical, production and viability of sugar ethanol.
The Sugar Forum was initially introduced and formed during
its first meeting in March 24, 2006. It is a gathering of producers,
planters and millers who talk about, discuss issues and concerns
about sugar and share insights, expertise and knowledge about the
industry.
Golez said the Sugar Forum is not an organization, but precisely
just a forum. There are no set of officers and only the chairman
or moderator chosen among those in attendance will preside the forum.
Among the co-convenors of the Sugar Forum are Titos Abello,
Franklin Fuentebella, Nadie Arceo, Pitch Rodriguez, Violeta Gonzaga
and Philip Khalid.*
