Escalante Mayor Santiago Barcelona last night assured that an organic molasses spill in the Danao River was minimal and is not expected to damage the environment.

He said molasses in a warehouse of the Sagay Sugar Central along the Danao River caved in causing the spill.

However, he said molasses is a substance that sinks and is will dilute so it is not expected to cause any damage to the environment. The warehouse where the leak occurred is near the Danao port, he said.*CPG
