Escalante gets
141 GK houses
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Another Gawad Kalinga village will soon rise in Escalante City with 141 houses to be built for the poor, Escalante Mayor Santiago Barcelona said yesterday.

Philippine Ambassador to the Philippines Romeo Arguelles and Barcelona's brother, Ricardo Barcelona, who works in The Hague raised the funds for the GK Dutch Escalante Friendship Village to be built in Barangay Washington, the mayor said. Groundbreaking will be held on April 12 and the ambassador will be made an honorary mayor of the city tomorrow and Thursday, Barcelona said.

Barcelona's target has been to build a housing village for the poor in every barangay of Escalante.

He said Arguelles and his brother, Ricardo Barcelona, are working to raise more funds to build 150 more houses for the poor in another barangay in Escalante City.*CPG
