IN BRGY. BATA
Karapali's son, pal
injured in shooting
A son of Revolutionary Proletarian Army/Alex Boncayao
Brigade commander Karapali Lualhati and his companion were shot
by three unidentified men at about 3 a.m. yesterday, police reports
said.
Rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial
Regional Hospital with wounds on his left arm and left thigh was
John Lenmark Yorong Paduano, 19, single, and Paul Milado Escusora,
25, single, of Purok Masinadyahon, Brgy. Bata, Bacolod City, who
sustained a wound on his right arm. Initial police investigation
showed that Paduano and Escusora were drinking at the Lutong Bahay
bar in Purok Magbinuligay, Brgy. Bata, when the suspects fired at
them with a homemade shotgun locally known as "sumpak."
PO2 Paul Peduhan of Police Station 2 said the
incident may be connected to the gang wars in the place, but added
that Lualhati's son does not have previous records with them.
In an interview with the DAILY STAR yesterday
at CLMMRH, Paduano refused to name their assailants but said that,
they are from Purok Sawmill in Brgy. Bata.
He also said that the seven shotgun pellets in
his leg have not been taken out yet and his family plans to transfer
him to another hospital.
The DAILY STAR tried to reach the elder Lualhati
for comment but he did not answer his cellphone nor replied to text
messages.* PP

Pototan
residents
recover mortar shell
ILOILO CITY -- Residents of Pototan town in Iloilo
province recovered an unexploded shell of a mortar believed to be
remnants from World War II.
The 81-millimeter mortar shell was discovered
Monday afternoon at Barangay Donsol in Pototan, PO2 Rollyn Lebios
of the Pototan police station, said. Lebios said a resident found
the mortar shell along a creek because part of it was protruding
from the ground. The discovery was reported by village chief Rogelio
Petilan to the police assistance center near the village.
A team form the ordnance division of the Iloilo Provincial
Police Office extracted the shell from the creek and took it to
the provincial police office. The US-made mortar shell is believed
to be part of unexploded ordnance left during the war, although
investigators said they will still determine if the ammunition was
recently buried in the area.*NPB
