goons in 1st district

The police of the Oriental Negros command is verifying reports that some politicians in the first district are importing goons from other provinces following the ambush-slay of supporters of a congressional candidate in La Libertad.

The camps of congressional candidate Jocelyn Limkaichong refused to believe that the killing of his leader, village chief Lydio Baylon, and six others was the work of the New People's Army, or that it was the plan of their political rivals.

On the other hand, congressional candidate Olive Paras denied reports that she has lots of goons who accompanying her while campaigning in the district. She said she has only her security personnel.

The military is now intensifying its patrols in many areas of Canlaon City, Oriental Negros, in coordination with the police, to avert any escalation of violence after the ambush-slay of the driver of Mayor Judith Cardenas on Sunday.

Jess Lubrisco, 39, was driving a Nissan Frontier owned by the local government unit of Canlaon, when he was ambushed by three armed men in Brgy. Linothangan, Canlaon City.

Cardenas was not on board the vehicle when her driver was killed.

No evidence found to charge
German national, lawyer says

ILOILO CITY - The lawyer of the German national wanted in the Philippines for the May 2004 murders of three foreigners and a Filipino in Boracay Island said yesterday that German prosecutors have found no cause to charge him.t

The lawyer of Uwe Friesl, Jaime Ma. Flores II, claimed that the prosecutors office of Deggendorf, a district in southeast Bavaria in Germany, has dropped the investigation against Friesl based on the evidence provided by the Philippine National Police and results of the investigation conducted by the German Federal Police.
