Lost and Found
H Martian Earl Muyco

Dagul. He's my pet - a blend of the Dachsund and a Terrier. Mother gave me Dagul after our previous pet was killed. My father started calling him Dagul because he reminds us of a comedian's face. Dagul will turn 3 years old in May.

He is smart. He can knock on the door when he is locked out and he remembers where he lives no matter how far he goes. One time, my cousin and I were walking to the mall, which was quite a distance from home, when we realized he followed us. We shooed him and told him to go home but he kept on tagging behind us. When we got to the mall, he couldn't get in and since we did not stay long, we thought he'd wait for us. When we went out, he was no longer there. We felt bad we neglected him that he got lost.

We were surprised that the next day, Dagul was knocking on our gate.

At times, Dagul goes with my mother to the market without her knowing it as she runs after the pedicab taken by her. People in the market love to see this fair-haired brown-and-white dog following my mother while she buys fish, vegetables and meat.

Music Lover
H Ma. Katrina Chen Niegos

Nacky loves to play with me. He likes to listen to music, too. When I get home from school, he always barks to welcome me home. On weekends, I spend time to take care of him and play with him.

I bought him from a neighborhood that sells dogs and cats. At first, mother did not allow me to bring him inside the house because she didn't like cats and dogs. I cried and cried until mother agreed to let him say in the house.

Nacky is like my best friend so I enjoy moments with him, thus I take good care of him. He is always in my heart as a good friend.

When you have a dog or pet, take good care of him because they are like human beings -they have feelings and emotions. They are like our best friends and parents that will not leave us. They comfort us too, when we are sad or alone. Love and enjoy your pets as you love yourself. That way you'll enjoy life.

My Best Friend
H David Estander Jr.

I named him after my idol, Steve. He was given to me by an uncle as a birthday gift three years ago. Steve has grown big but has remained lovable and white.

Steve is very playful. When he touch his tail, he runs away. It seems he feels tickled. How he loves to eat meat and bones. He does not like rice.

And he does not want to be bathed. That's the reason why we don't let him sleep inside the house.

Steve has a ball that he plays with anytime he wants to. I gave it to him during my last birthday.

I feel lucky to have pet like Steve. He always makes me smile, especially when I'm tired and angry. Steve cheers me up.

Steve is my pet and my best friend.

Spike, My Friend
H Ira Rose Magbanua

Some prefer cats for their pets. Others, birds or fish. For me, I prefer a dog. Dogs are loyal, courageous, intelligent and adaptable. They're useful as well. A dog guards houses, plays with children and guides those who hunt. A trusted friend and companion, the dog is often called our best friend.

I have a small dog at home. He's fun to be with. He's unique compared to other dogs. he's trained to be friendly with other people, to be obedient as well as to fit into his own environment.

Spike loves to chase cats, chicken and whatever he wants to chase. I often find him under the chair, sleeping. Sometimes, when he's in the mood, he would follow me, even to school and when he has nothing to do, he would keep things, like slippers and shoes. Sometimes he hides them behind plants, under the table or even buries them.

"A dog is man's best friend." This saying has been proven again and again by a lonely shepherd's dog, by a blind man's guide, by a child's life-saving dog and by the warning bark of a family dog when its home caught fire. It has been proven by your dog and by Spike.

Cleanliness for the Future

It's hard to maintain the cleanliness and beautification of a school, much more a big school. This is even becomes a tougher task with today's bunch of students who hardly care about self-discipline.

Many don't care. They just throw their litter around as they have been used to doing it.

Lately, schools have made extra effort to campaign for cleanliness. As a result, few litter and waste can be seen. Heaps of garbage were used to be seen but now these are placed in appropriate pits. The landscape of schools is getting greener and more beautiful. Even entry and exit of students to the campus have become orderly.

Obviously, the positive changes occur because of the information campaign launched for students on the need for the maintenance of cleanliness. Symposia and class fora have been held to educate the students.

Campus organizations, too, are doing their share, by making their members more aware of their responsibilities to help the school get cleaner. Club officers talk about the need to cooperate -from the teachers to the students - to ensure that the school and the campus will look better.

With our support, schools will continue to be a wholesome place which is conducive to learning because they are clean, orderly and well-maintained.
