A reservist guard at the Dr. Pablo. O. Torre Memorial
Hospital in Bacolod City was cited for his honesty in returning
an envelope containing cash, a press release from the hospital said.
Syrel Caņezares, the security guard, saw several
P500 bills in an envelope which he endorsed to shift supervisor
Arnold Talorong.
The cash totaled P11,000 and belonged to Sister
Linda Tanalgo, administrator of the St. Paul's Hospital in Iloilo
City who attended a retreat at the Carmelite Monastery in Bacolod,
the press release said.
Caņezares was commended by both the Dr. Pablo.
O. Torre Memorial Hospital and St. Paul's Hospital for his honesty,
it also said.
Meanwhile, the Riverside Diabetes Wellness Club will
have an ankle-brachial index test (foot doppler) from 8:30 to 11:30

fun ride to save
seas set tomorrow
The "Save our Seas Bike Fun Ride" will be held at
6:30 a.m. tomorrow starting at the Capitol Lagoon in Bacolod City,
a press release from organizers headed by Dave Gamboa said.
The event is a campaign for the protection of the
seas and focusing on the effects of the recent oil spill when MV
Solar I sank on Guimaras island, it said. Negros Occidental, being
a coastal province, yields 60 percent of fish products and the effects
of the oil spill is still imminent, it added. It also said that
an aerial view of the seas on Guimaras shows that approximately
seven coastal barangays have been directly hit by the oil.*

Seventeen indigents families were adopted by different
sponsors at the Adopt-A-Family program during the Family Day celebration
on the theme "Bida ka, Pamilyang Pilipino" in Kabankalan City, Negros
Occidental yesterday, a press release from the city said.
Selected families from Brgys. 1 to 9, Talubangi,
Linao, Salong, Camansi, Binicuil, Daan Banua, Camugao and Hilamonan
were given gifts and provided with free snacks and lunch by their
sponsors.
A motorcade around the city kicked off the celebration,
followed by an opening program at the city plaza with Mayor Pedro
Zayco, Jr. giving the inspirational message with Adelina Tomaro,
CSWD officer, welcoming the participants, the press release said.
The Pag-asa Youth Assocation of the Philippines
Theater Group presented a play that deals on communication problem
between parents and children.
Parlor games participated in by the members of
the families were also held.
The sponsors were the Sangguniang Panlungsod,
Lions Club of Kabankalan, Kabankalan "Molasses" Jaycees, Department
of Education, Liga ng mga Barangay, Rotary Club of Kabankalan, Day
Care Workers Association, Zayco Family, Barangay Health Workers
Federation, Temple Ace Academy, Kabankalan "Bangkal" Jaycees, PCAG,
ERPAT Federation, Kabankalan Catholic College, Fellowship Baptist
College, Fortress College and the Anacan family, the press release
said.
An alternative medicine and first aid demonstration
to the participants was also conducted, it added.*

Winners of the 2nd Pharmaton Kiddi Star 2006 were
awarded at the Gaisano Supermall in Bacolod City recently, a press

Blessyl Renee Malabor of Isabela Elementary School
was first place in Acting followed by Ma. Danielle Aubrey Amen second,
and Mariah Aleja Amen as third.
Jagnelle Temana of ETCS II won in the Belly Dance,
along with Justine Arla Gustilo, second, the press release said.
In Vocal Solo winner were Raymund Cris Garcia (St. Theresa's Academy,
Silay City), first; Nimrod Diaz, and Jay Benedict Alfaras, second
and Christianne Andrea Jerez, third. The event was sponsored by
