avenge rape of sister
BY RENE GENOVE

A man was charged with arson when he allegedly attempted to burn the house of another man in Brgy. Bangcal, whom he believed had raped his younger sister days earlier in Jimalalud, Oriental Negros.

The suspect, Romulo Sarabia, 31, married, a farmer, was, however, foiled in his attempt when other neighbors noticed the flames and doused the fire with water.

Only the roof of the kitchen was burned and no one was injured since the target of Sarabia's anger was out at that time, investigation of the Bureau of Fire Protection disclosed.

A police officer in Bais City, Oriental Negros, and his 15-year-old son were shot dead at 10 p.m. Thursday in what is believed to be a case of vendetta, PNP provincial director Sr.Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe said.

Killed were SPO1 Richard Teves Sr. and his son Richard Teves Jr., a third year high school student, investigation showed.

Teves was on a patrol beat to Tamisu, Bais after 10 p.m. to monitor and conduct surveillance operations on reported thefts of electrical wiring connections.

Rice not mixed with
commercial stocks
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The National Food Authority in Oriental Negros denied speculations that private retailers were mixing NFA rice with commercial stocks and selling them at a price higher than the P18 per kilogram set by the grains agency.

Provincial manager Marianito Bejemino of the NFA clarified this, after the Grains Retailers Confederation said it was possible that one percent of rice retailers might have managed to mix NFA rice with commercial stocks and sell them beyond the NFA-scheduled price.

GRECON president Serafin Renido said, the practice could not be avoided because many retailers operate in remote areas.
