The Executive Committee chaired by Councilor Dindo
Ramos for the 68th Charter Day anniversary of Bacolod City has lined-up
activities for the celebration on Oct. 19, a City Hall press release
said.
Highlight of the program is the annual awarding
rites to honor outstanding government executives and employees as
well as outstanding taxpayers of the city.
Awardees will be cited for their significant contribution
to the progress and development of the city. Twenty taxpayers will
receive the award, 10 from the individual category, and another
10 from business and realty, the press release said.
In the afternoon, a civic and military parade
to be participated in by various schools, government agencies and
floats representing commercial establishments.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia will lead the thanksgiving
Mass for the city's charter anniversary which will be held Oct.
17 during the Employees Day, the press release said. Bacolod City
Government Employees Union will sponsor said activity.
Right after the mass, the daylong program will
commence with a parade to be followed by an opening ceremony preceding
various activities like marathon and traditional parlor games.
In the afternoon, the employees will be given the
chance to showcase their talents through various competitions such
as singing and dancing, including the search for BCGE Festival Queen,
the press release added.*

Folkdances,
Sayawit presented
in Kabankalan Tourism Week
The Department of Education sponsored "Sayawit" and
folkdance presentations at the K-Center Wednesday in connection
with the Tourism Week celebration in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental,
a press release from the city said.
Various public and private schools in the city
performed 18 folkdances representing the different regions of the
country. Participants were the Fortress College, Felowship Baptist
College , Kabankalan Catholic College and the City Division choir,
the press release said.
Mayor Pedro Zayco Jr. who gave the opening message
said he appreciated the participation of the schools.
A tourism awareness seminar will be held in Kabankalan
City today with Imogene Kanaan and Jennylind Cordero, Bacolod and
Provincial tourism officers, respectively, as resource speakers.
Kanaan will speak on "Community Based Tourism"
and Cordero on "The Role of the Private Sector in the Tourism Industry,"

resto opens today
A new place for lovers of Filipino cuisine will open
at 10 a.m. today at Villa Angela East Block, at Don Carlos Hilado
Circumferential Road, in Bacolod City, a press release from its
management said.
Msgr. Victorino Rivas, vicar general of the Diocese
of Bacolod, will officiate at the blessing of Kyosko @ D' Block,
while Bacolod Rep. Monico and Ma. Regina Piccio, president of the
FFG Inc., will cut the ceremonial ribbon, it also said.
The place was formerly known as Kyosko and was
first established in the early 80s by Regina "Gingging" Cuenca,
niece of the late Conchita Cuenca, a byword in the food business,
who inspired Gingging to venture into it, the press release said.
Then located at the 25th Street Lacson, Kyosko
started as a simple kiosk, that eventually became a hangout for
those who enjoyed the specially made "kansi."
Kyosko, which had enjoyed the patronage of local
food lovers and visitors, later moved to the Bacolod reclamation
area near the seafront.
Kyosko @ D' Block will be managed by Gingging
Cuenca, and on top of its food list are low-priced kyosko spare
ribs with atchara siding, sate babe with sate rice, purok steak
(tenderloin with cheese and butter inside), kyosko toppings, sizzling
bulalo, kare-kare and bulalo, the press release said.
With Gingging in managing Kyosko @ D' Block are siblings
and friends Jose "Yong" Cuenca, Cristina Lamata, Laurita Narque,
Josefina Ledesma and Anton Azcona, the press release added.*

perform in Austria
The Babaylan cultural group of Bago City, Negros
Occidental, performed in Vienna, Austria, recently, on the invitation
of Babaylan Austria headed Cecille Orola Cech, in cooperation with
the Philippine Embassy in Vienna and the Department of Tourism,
a press release from the group said.
The delegation was headed by John Orola, DoT
tourism envoy who was appointed by Gov. Joseph Maraņon to represent
the province.
The group headed by Clemente del Castillo also
performed at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna and was well
applauded by diplomats and personnel, and visitors of the United
Nations, the press release said.
Negrenses Angie Rubin, Dina De Leon Stumpacker
and Patricia De Leon Morales arranged the U.N. performance while
that before the Ilonggo community was arranged by Germis Torres,
president of Ilonggo community, the press release said.
They also performed for the Bicol community in
Austria during the Peņafrancia Festival.
Philippine Ambassador to Austria Linglangay Lakanlee
congratulated the Bago City group, the press release added.*
