2 nabbed in 'drug havens'

Suspected drug peddlers in barangays Canday-ong, Zone 4, and Looc, considered as havens for illegal drugs in Dumaguete City, were arrested in raids conducted by operatives of Task Force 24 Monday.

National Bureau of Investigation agent Miguel Dungog said, after a lull of several days in anti-drug operation, drug personalities were reported to be selling scot-free in the raided areas.

Arrested in a buy-bust operation in Purok Sampaguita, Barangay Canday-ong was Tommy Caba, 26, single, a resident of said place.

Confiscated from his possession was one sachet of suspected shabu, the marked money and nine more matchboxes of dried marijuana leaves.

At 8 p.m. Tuesday, another suspect was caught in possession of prohibited drugs. He was identified as Laurencio Cristin, 34, married of Zone 4, Looc.

Task Force 24 men went back to the place the following day and conducted another buy-bust operation which yielded positive results, and recovery of pieces of evidence against Crisford Tantio.

He, however eluded arrest by jumping out of the window in the back portion where shanties are built.

However, during the search, authorities recovered various illegal drug paraphernalia, a tooter, aluminum foil, lighter, one small and one big sachet of shabu and P31,720 in cash, believed to be proceeds of the nefarious activity.

SPO1 Manuel Boy Sanchez of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, said charges will be filed against Tantio for violating sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Court records showed that Tantio is also facing criminal charges for child abuse in the Regional Trial Court of Oriental Negros.*JG
