A golden celebration in LCC
The La Consolacion College High School Class of 1956 in Bacolod
City celebrated their golden jubilee for three days, Sept. 1 to
3.
Last month, though, the class visited and gave a donation to the
Capuchin Sisters in Brgy. Cabug, Bacolod who are taking care of
abused girls. On Sept. 2, a Saturday, a one-man show of the paintings
of Rodney Martinez, also of Class '56, was held at the Sugarland
Hotel, with Jesusa Sonora Poe, popularly know as Susan Roces, and
Dr. Rena Magno-Nora cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
A bienvenida dinner and party for all class members followed.
Everybody had a grand time, reminiscing on their happy high school
days.
The following day, Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra blessed the
7-foot high "Welcoming Christ" statute, in front of the Bishop's
House, which is a project of Class '56.
Susan Roces and Dr. Rena Magno-Nora unveiled the marker listing
the names of all members of the class. A motorcade by all alumni
followed, then a Thanksgiving Mass sponsored by Class'56.
A variety program and awarding was also held for alumni who have
made a mark in the community.
They were Susan Sonora Poe - distinguished alumni award; and the
outstanding alumni were Rena Magno Nora - medicine; Perla Leonardia
- civic and community; Geoffrey Ababao - business, and Joel Muyco
- environment.
A posthumous award was given to Antonio Antivola who was represented
by his son Allan Rey.
Susan Roces delivered the response for the awardees.
The class ended their homecoming the following day with a goodbye
lunch at the Pope John Paul Institute in Punta Taytay Beach.
Everybody had photo opportunities their superstar classmate, Susan
Roces, queen of Philippine movies.
