The Sta. Fe Aquatics and Francisco A. Guanco Swimming Team made the biggest waves by collecting 25 and 28 golds respectively, in the Pilipinas Youth Swimming Cup-Visayas Sectional Meet 1 at the Panaad Olympic Pool in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City over the weekend.

SFA tankers Miguel Villanueva and Carmela Nava fished out five gold medals each in the boys' 16 and girls' 15 categories, respectively, to spearhead their squad.

Kiefer Alexander Piccio and Hillary Tan, both students of University of St. La Salle, posted five and four gold medal finishes in the boys' 12 and girls' 13 hostilities, respectively, to lead FAGST. Villanueva, a Palarong Pambansa gold medalist, began his campaign by ruling the 1,500-meter freestyle in 19 minutes and 50.45 seconds, beating teammates Adrian Cua (20:00.04) and Steven Earl Alvior (20:21.76).

Negros cage summit slated

The 1st Negros Basketball Summit is set on Sept. 22 at the Bascon Hotel in Bacolod City with 12 organizations in the province expected to join the one-day event.

Oscar "Dodong" Bascon, president of the organizing Negros Basketball Association, said Rep. Monico Puentevella has agreed to attend the summit.

Bascon also organized a committee with former Bacolod councilor Juan Ramon "Monju" Guanzon as chairman, and Jojo Dazo and Dexter Dy as members to draft the issues that will be tackled in the activity.

cagers gain semis

Defending champion University of St. La Salle and Mansilingan Christian Academy ripped their opponents over the weekend to gain semifinal berths in the 2nd Basketball Unified Sports Group-Sharp Cup 17-Under Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School in Bacolod City.

USLS turned back St. Benilde School squad, 79-66, yesterday, while the MCA cagers demolished SBS, 97-76, Saturday, before posting a resounding 104-76 victory over St. Rose of Lima School yesterday.

University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos also secured a spot in the final four by splitting its decision with a 65-60 triumph against SRLS Saturday, before bowing to the guest team Satllions, 72-81, yesterday.
