A legacy for Talisay

The 10th Foundation Day of the Inocencio V. Ferrer Memorial School of Fisheries in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, was commemorated recently to coincide with the birthday of the late Congressman and SSS Commissioner Inocencio V. Ferrer.

Rep. Jose Carlos "Kako" Lacson (3rd district, Neg. Occ.) had authored the bill naming the Talisay School of Fisheries after Inocencio V. Ferrer since then, Coleta Ferrer, widow of the congressman, has never failed to attend the annual celebration. This time she was with her son Isagani.

A parade was held followed by a Thanksgiving Mass at the IVFMSF auditorium, officiated by Fr. Edcel Celez, OAR, parish priest of San Nicolas de Tolentino. Rep. Lacson was represented at the event by Councilor C.B. Lacson, while Remus Gulmatico stood for Vice Mayor Neil Lizares.

School principal Magdalena Bibat gave the welcome address, and Superintendent Eva Belicina of the Department of Education delivered a special message.

Mayor Eric Saratan who just came back from his honeymoon, drew loud applause.

The highlight was the unveiling of a bust of the late Rep. Inocencio Ferrer, author and sponsor of the law establishing the Talisay School of Fisheries in 1967.

A hearty lunch for the guests followed.*

Remember: "No day is too dark and no burden too great that God in his love cannot penetrate."
