3 RMG troopers
pardon attacker

All's well that ends well.

With these words, three members of the Regional Mobile Group of the Philippine National Police based in Mabinay agreed to settle the case of a young man under the influence of liquor who allegedly attacked one of them and, later, bit another for arresting him during the recent fiesta of Bacong town.

Police identified the suspect as Joseph Carino, 26, single, of Brgy. Apolong, Valencia and the policemen as PO1s Rodrigo Morados, Ryan Tolomia, and Bobby Fulmaran, members of the RMG-7 augmentation force detailed to help maintain peace and order during the fiesta celebration on August 28.

The policemen said they were monitoring the vicinity of the municipal plaza across the national highway and helping ease traffic when Carino, apparently under the influence of liquor, with two companions asked PO1 Tolomia in a mocking voice if his issued armalite could fire.

Tolomia said that he ignored Carino at first, but later when the suspect was getting out of hand, he and his RMG companions approached him.

Instead of leaving quietly, Carino allegedly attempted to wrest Morados' service rifle, resulting in a struggle between the two men.

PO1 Fulmaran then fired a warning shot. The three RMG officers then pounced on Carino and handcuffed him, but the young man bit the right arm of Morados.

At the police station, Bacong chief of police Insp. Edwin Tuble investigated the case. The three RMG-7 police officers agreed to settle their complaint and Carino was released.*
