Police warns vs.
Akyat Bahay

The public is being reminded not to leave their houses unattended when they go to cemeteries during the All Saint's Day observance tomorrow.

Bacolod City police director, Senior Supt. Pedro Merced, yesterday said they have monitored reports that an "Akyat-bahay" gang will start to operate in the city during the celebration since most people will be busy visiting their dead relatives in cemeteries.

He said the gang is also using children in their modus-operandi so that they could easily enter the house they want to rob. He is also asking the public to secure the locks of their residences and not to leave their houses without anybody looking after them.

Carrying of deadly weapons and drinking in the cemeteries are also not allowed, Merced said.

He also said he has also put up police assistance centers near private cemeteries.

Merced said he has directed his men to take full responsibility for cemeteries in their areas such as Rose Lawn Memorial Park, Bacolod Public Cemetery in Burgos Street, Rolling Hills Memorial Park, Chinese Cemetery, Bacolod Memorial Park, Brgy. Handumanan Cemetery, Brgy. Sum-ag Cemetery, Sacred Heart Memorial Park and Brgy. Granada Cemetery.*DMG
