Bacolod-based Ali Rojas and Bagoeño goalkeeper Edward Sacapaño
have been included to the initial list of players submitted by the
Philippine Football Federation for the Asean Football Federation
Cup qualifiers that starts Nov. 12 at the Panaad Park and Stadium.
An influential midfielder, who can also play up front, Rojas
has been instrumental for the University of St. La Salle's success
in the men's open tournaments, while Sacapaño, a member of the Philippine
Army, has seen action for West Negros College.
Also part of the team are Dumaguete-born players Jerome Orcullo,
Jeffrey Liman, defender Wilson de la Cruz hails from Iloilo but
has played for WNC in many tournaments, just like midfielder Roel
Gener. The list will be trimmed down to 18 a few days before the
Philippines takes on Laos in its first game on Nov. 12.
USLS players Floriano Pasilan, Jason Panhay, Arnie Pasinabo
and ex-college standout Archie Bayquin have opted out of the team.
RP coach Aris Caslib also did not include Joel Ballo-Allo and Robert
Cañedo of West Negros College.
Headlining the roster are Fil-British brothers James and
Phil Younghusband, who play club football in England. The other
Fil-foreigners in the squad are brothers Chris and Phil Greatwich,
Darren Hartman and Matthew Hartmann, Henry Brawner and Fil-Australian
Leigh James Gunn.
Ali Borromeo, who captained the Philippine squad in the SEA Games,
Emilio Caligdong and Ian Araneta are among the most active members
of the squad. The other members of the pool are Louie Michael Casas,
Alvin Ray Montañez, Richard Betita (Iloilo), Alvin Ocampo (NCR),
Andrew Santiago (NCR), Johanne Pietro Sablon (Iloilo), Anton Del
Rosario, Anto Gonzales (NCR), Ariel Zerrudo (NCR), Roxy Dorlas (Laguna),
Winnie Sibere (Iloilo), Dan Padernal (Iloilo) and Luis Brillantes
