The Philippine National Police provincial command confirmed yesterday that some of the firearms seized from a businessman last Friday were government-issued.

The businessman identified as Anthony Ramos Ho, 33, is now detained after he waived his right to preliminary investigation.

He identified a certain police officer as the possible owner of one of the seized firearms and explosives. PNP provincial director, Sr. Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, identified the businessman's close friend as PO1 Celis who is presently detailed with the Explosives and Ordnance Division in Camp Fernandez, Agan-an, Sibulan, Oriental Negros.

Two city police officers were disarmed during the closing program of the 2006 Buglasan Festival of Festivals Sunday, at the Capitol grounds, in Dumaguete City.

One was disarmed for public scandal when he was seen Sunday night with an issued firearm while not in uniform. Buenafe refused to reveal his name but he said the policeman has been reprimanded.

For challenging another police officer of Dumaguete to a duel and pointing his gun at PO2 Reynaldo Alvarez, early yesterday morning, PO1 Bernard Aba, a member of the 705th Provincial Mobile Group, was also disarmed.

Despite the scorching heat of the sun and the dust, Negrenses did not miss the staging of the 3rd Buglasan Motocross held in barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City.

Participants came all the way as far as Mindanao, Cebu, Bacolod, Dipolog and Manila. Spectators said it was the first time they had witnessed the skills of national motocross riders like Glen Aguilar, and San Andres, among others.

Aguilar placed first in all the events and categories he participated in.
