Despite the scorching heat of the sun and the dust, Negrenses
did not miss the staging of the 3rd Buglasan Motocross held in barangay
Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City.
Participants came all the way as far as Mindanao,
Cebu, Bacolod, Dipolog and Manila. Spectators said it was the
first time they had witnessed the skills of national motocross riders
like Glen Aguilar, and San Andres, among others.
Aguilar placed first in all the events and categories he participated
in.
Local riders Erwin Uypitching and Windsor Pamolgar placed
second in all events when Aguilar was first, and Uypitching was
always second. One of the more electrifying features was the free
style category, participated in by only three riders, Aguilar, Uypitching
and Pamolgar, who showed their acrobatic stunts on wheels while
maneuvering the obstacles.
In his message, Gov. George Arnaiz encouraged the public to
continue clamoring for more activities in next year's Buglasan.
Meanwhile, the Buglasan Drag Race was cancelled after
one of the riders met an accident while speeding his way to the
finish line. The participants were from Bacolod, Cebu and Mindanao.
It was, however, reported that some of the drag racers
brought along with them their modified motorcycles with defaced
chassis or no chassis numbers at all. The organizers had to seek
the help of authorities before these motorcycles were released.
A grandmother asked the organizers not to allow her grandson
to ride the motorbike because he has no driver's license.
While the drag race was going on, the city patrol car had to enter
the drag race area to demand for a mayor's permit or authority from
the traffic management office from the organizers who failed to
present the documents. The event was cancelled after only a few
races.*JG
