DOF names Badajos as
new city treasurer

The Bureau of Local Government Finance Region 6 has named Annabelle Badajos as the new treasurer of Bacolod City, succeeding

outgoing City Treasurer Florentino, who is retiring from government service effective today.

Badajos, who was treasurer of Bago City before her assignment to Bacolod, met with Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday together with Guanco and BLGF OIC Regional Director Melba Sullivan.

The formal turnover rites will be held on Nov. 2. "I don't know her personally but I heard good things about her," Leonardia said of Badajos.

He said that he had to convince Bago Mayor Janet Torres to let go of Badajos before the latter was assigned to replace Guanco, who was with Bacolod for the past 12 years.

Sullivan said Badajos, who stayed in Bago also for 12 years, is a good choice for Bacolod which, she said, is always in the top 3 among the cities in Western Visayas in terms of collection of real property, business and other taxes.

Badajos, a native of Roxas City, who was once OIC provincial treasurer of Capiz, assured the Bacolodnons she will always carry out her task within the bounds of the law. "I want to serve Bacolod while I'm still able and capable," said Badajos, who has worked in the government for 35 years.

Her predecessor, who is retiring after 37 years in government services, had been thrust in the public eye several times in the past particularly on issues pertaining to availability of local funds.

Guanco said that as he leaves Bacolod, he hopes that the city will become more prosperous and progressive.*NLG
