The Chinese government has pledged to bring in more investments
to the Philippines, Malacaņang said in a statement yesterday.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who arrived in China Saturday
for a five-day visit, got the commitment from Meng Jianzhu, secretary
of the Communist Party of China-Jiangxi Provincial Committee and
chairman of the Standing Committee of the Jiangxi Provincial People's
Congress, during their meeting at the Sofitel Trilec Hotel in Jiangxi.
Jiangxi is a sister city of Bohol and both provinces signed
a Memorandum of Agreement to expand their trade and friendly relations.
The agreement covers business, agriculture, tourism, mining,
culture and education concerns.
Meanwhile Rep. Ignacio Arroyo Jr. (Neg. Occ., 5th District),
who is also part of the official delegation to China, yesterday
said he is optimistic for Filipino skilled workers as the trade
relations between China and the Philippines strengthen. The Filipino
workers, who met with President Arroyo in Xiamen, were mostly working
for various electronic firms, he said.
Rep. Arroyo said in a press release that during his talk
with Nomiro Chuan of Delta Electronics, he learned that most of
the workers in the said firm, one of the biggest in Xiamen, are
Filipinos.
China is one of the top importers of electronic products from
the Philippines. Rep. Arroyo said that while Filipinos can find
job opportunities in China, those who opt to stay in the country
can benefit from the high demand of skilled workers in the electronics
industry.*
