Cojuangco speaker
at city charter day

Rep. Mark Cojuangco (Pangasinan, 5th district) will be guest of honor and speaker during the Bacolod City Charter Day program at the Bays Center, Bacolod City on Oct. 19, 2006.

The City of Bacolod will honor its outstanding citizens and taxpayers during its 68th Charter Day celebration.

Cojuangco is vice chairman of the Committee on Cooperative Development and the Special Committee on Entrepreneurship Development in the Lower House.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said "Cojuangco can share with us important points in the development of the entrepreneurial spirit for our constituents."

He belongs to a new breed of leaders today whose outlook on growth and development extends beyond our horizon, he said. With his professional and technical background and excellent record as a public servant, Cojuangco could be an inspiration to Bacoleņos on our special day, he added.

Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairman of the Charter Day Program Committee, said Cojuangco will be a fine example to the youth of Bacolod, who might emulate his drive for success and excellence in public service.

Among the many House Bills sponsored by Cojuangco is an Act fixing the retirement age of officers and enlisted personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the members of the Philippine National Police at 65 years old.

He also sponsored the resolution expressing the sense of the House of Representatives of the Philippines for an appeal to be made to the steward of the two noble sanctuaries, King Fahed Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for the return of four overseas Filipino workers who were executed on Mar. 14, 2005.

Cojuangco is the son of former ambassador Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco and Gretchen Oppen Cojuangco of Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.

Meanwhile, Miss MassKara Vancouver, Alea Kaye Cepe of Vancouver, Canada is arriving in Bacolod today for the MassKara Festival while the Bacolod Society of America led by Dr. Manuel Lazo will arrive tomorrow.

Leonardia said the Gawad Kalinga will hold a special fund raising during the MassKara Festival in order to build more houses in the province. Aside from GK executive director Tony Meloto and former Miss International Aurora Pijuan, he said, he was informed that more celebrities are arriving in the city to join their cause.*CGS
