These bets love sports
BY CEDELF TUPAS

From the looks of it, sports lovers are aplenty in this year's crop of Masskara Queen aspirants.

The winning candidate in the talent competition, Christer Marie Taclobos, showcased karate moves to earn the nod of the judges. Another candidate also mentioned volleyball as one of her favorite pastimes. But they're not the only hopefuls in this batch who have a passion for sports.

Novie Profeta, a senior Nursing student at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, says basketball is her favorite sport and even dreams of making it to the Women's National Basketball Association, the most prestigious basketball league in the world.

Angelique Robles considers badminton and futsal (indoor football) as her favorite sports. Asked to describe herself, Angelique says she is frank, goal-oriented and believes in the saying "When the going gets tough, the tough gets going".

Novie, 19, the daughter of Manuel and Bernadette Profeta, says her favorite movies include If Only and Pearl Harbor, both of which revolve on love story plots.

Known to her friends as Anj, Angelique says she likes to read books and hang out with her friends. She considers the book "Twisted" by Filipino author Jessica Zafra as one of the bets books she has read.

Novie and Angelique will compete with eight other beauties for the Masskara Queen title on Oct. 16 at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City. *CPT
