'A grand ruby jubilee'

The moment you walked in, the décor was impressive. The sight of lush green plants filled up the room, giving a warm feeling of peace and serenity. This was the Ruby Jubilee celebration of the Negros Occidental Garden Club held recently at the Sea Breeze Hotel.

The guests were welcomed by the officers of the club headed by Tess Aplaon, president. It was a happy crowd of ladies who shared a common love of plants. The program, emceed by Dr. Nena Nolido, was highlighted by the recognition of past presidents of the club. We were amazed to learn that the club began in 1963 headed by Milagros Villasor. Who would have imagined then, that it would flourish and grow to what it is now - a vibrant and dynamic group who had contributed much to the community.

Most of the past presidents of the club attended the occasion as did the Loyalty Awardees. Tess Aplaon, 2006 president, delivered an impressive message as she thanked the members for their wholehearted support and confidence. The members sang their theme song, "Sampaguita", as the program drew to a close. Everyone enjoyed the endless array of specially prepared dishes for the merienda cena. There were shrieks of delight during the raffle draw where the winners got beautiful plants as prizes. What a delightful Ruby Jubilee it was. Kudos to the Negros Occidental Garden Club for their successful celebration.

It was a special night at Sipango, Goldenfield, when popular Edith Robillo celebrated her birthday with a bang. Edith's friends from her various clubs and organizations were there to celebrate with her. The celebrator made her entrance in an elegant lime green beaded gown amidst warm applause from the guests. A short program was held where her various outreach projects were outlined. Her latest project is to help the ecology by donating baby mahogany trees to the different organizations where she belongs. You go, girl! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!*
