Bacolod City has formed a committee for the Alay
Lakad in December on the theme, "Sa Bawat Hakbang, Kabuhayan Para
Sa Kabataan", a City Hall press release said.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia is the honorary chairperson
while Manny Jalandoni, of the Council of Lions Clubs Presidents
of Negros, is the chairperson of the executive committee.
Jalandoni took over the post from Manny Songco
of the Rotary Club of Bacolod West in ceremonies held at the Casino
Filipino Hotel recently. Songco was represented by Perceival Comia
of Rotary Club, the finance committee head last year, the press
release said.
Members of various civic and non-government organizations,
as well as schools, and the city government join the yearly walk
to promote projects for the out-of-school youth.
Last year, around P150,000 worth of livelihood
and educational projects were extended by the committee to 159 beneficiaries.
The ExeCom members for this year's activity are: finance - Council
of Lions Club Presidents of Negros; public relations - Public Information
Office; awards - Lions Club; program - Department of Education;
project - Department of Social Services and Development and Lions;
walk/security - Bacolod City Police Office; and physical arrangement
- General Services Office, the press release said.
The group meets every Friday, 5:30 p.m. and those

Occidental bags awards
Negros Occidental won as Best in Tourism Week celebration
and Best in Tourism Organization at the recent convention of the
Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines in Koronadal
City, South Cotabato, a Capitol press release said.
Evelinda Mondia, president of ATO Negros Occidental,
provincial information officer Marlin Sanogal, Public Affairs officer
Anna Marie Lucasan, and tourism officers Karen Dinsay and Mayjor
Ray Embang presented the awards to Gov. Joseph Maraņon, in the presence
of assistant provincial engineer Ernie Mapa, provincial administrator
Enrique Pinongan, Salvador Benedicto Mayor Cynthia de la Cruz, Cauayan
Mayor Jerry Tabujara and Pulupandan Mayor Luis Monida, the press

beauty queen judge at
MassKara SuperMom contest
Beauty queen and model Jewel Mae Lobaton-Pimentel
will lead the panel of judges in the "MassKara SuperMom 2006" search
of Mom's Radio on Saturday, 3 p.m. at the Atrium of Gaisano City
Supermall, Bacolod City, a press release from organizers said.
Lobaton-Pimentel was the 1993 MassKara Queen
and 1998 Bb. Pilipinas Universe who represented the country in the
Miss Universe contest in Honolulu, Hawaii where she ranked 16th
among the 72 contenders from around the world.
She is married to lawyer Aquilino Pimentel III,
and they are blessed with a son, Aquilino Martin Emmanuel Pimentel
IV, 2 years old.
Lobaton is into an advocacy on literacy enhancement
of children, the out-of-school youth, women and housewives, and
even husbands.
She is also helping the National Book Development
Board as volunteer in providing books, other educational materials
and helping build libraries or literacy centers in the barangays,
the press release said. Lobaton-Pimentel gave books to Brgy. 41
Sangguniang Kabataan in Bacolod City in 2004; and is donating books
to the adopted barangay of Rotary Club of Manila Bay, in Sampaloc
City, Metro Manila.
During her reign as Bb. Pilipinas, she was also a
full-time missionary/pastoral worker of Couples for Christ and a
volunteer for Gawad Kalinga, the press release added.*
