Gear Box nails first win;
BA edges Fyters in OT

Gear Box broke into the win column Friday night with a 90-87 victory over Chemisolutions Inc. in the 3rd Conference of the Fil-Sino Inter-color Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Marc Lo scored the final three points of Gear Box to preserve the win as Chemisolutions' Arvin Gustilo missed his three-point attempt from half court that would have force overtime.

In the other game, Bobby Yap exploded for 32 points to spearhead BA Oriental Tires Supply for a stunning 93-92 nipping of Fyr Fyter Marketing in overtime to notch its second victory in three encounters.

Yap and RB Chua went 2-2 each on their free throw opportunities in the dying seconds to seal the victory, before Melvin Joseff Baclay of Fyr hit a three-point shot at the buzzer.

Entering the payoff period with the score tied at 62, Yap and Chua combined for 17 of the 19 points tallied by BA in the quarter, but Baclay and Charlton Ong answered with 9 and 6 markers, respectively, for Fyr to keep in step and play in overtime.

Backstopping Yap were Chua and Albert Li with 12 points each as Dansoy Co chipped in 10 markers.

Churchill Ababao amassed all of his 9 points in the opening period for BA, while Alain Yu had 8 markers.

Fyr, which absorbed its first setback in three outings, was paced by Baclay, canning 15 points as Ong and Julius Teruel contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively. Richard Co and Irvin Llacer combined for 15 markers.

Meanwhile, Lo converted a left-handed lay-up with 24 seconds left in the game to give Gear Box an 89-85 cushion, before Chemisolutions' Simon Guevarra answered with another lay-up to narrow the margin at 87-89. Lo had another chance to extend the lead, but missed his pair of free throws. Teammate Jeff Wee, however, bailed him out by triggering a steal off Gustilo's entry pass to Antonio Rogacion.

Lo finished with a game-high 29 points, while Wee poured in 21 markers. Also making solid contributions for Gear Box, which improved to 1-2, were Jan Jan Lopue and Enrique Chua Jr. with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Topscoring for the Chemisolutions squad that dropped to 1-2 was Oliver Manaloto with 22 points, while Gustilo canned 21 markers. Rogacion and Guevarra ended up with 18 and 14 points, respectively. *CIT
