The Land Bank of the Philippines has granted a P15-million
loan to the Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development
Foundation for the importation of 1,200 heads of 250-kilo weaners
from Northern Territories, Australia.
LandBank announced that the amount represents 53
percent of the landed cost of cattle. NISARD Foundation will shoulder
the counterpart marginal deposit of P13.35 million.
NISARD Foundation was formed by the two Negros
provinces through a grant of P10 million each to promote growth
of secondary industries, including livestock and organize farming,
which are ancillary to the sugar industry.

Zubiri urges Senate
to pass biofuels bill
Bukidnon Rep. Juan Miguel Zubiri is pushing for
the passage of biofuels bill in the Senate before the Congress
takes a break on October 14.
Zubiri, who authored the House version of the bill,
said in a press statement he hopes that the senators will finally
agree on their version soon so it can be reconciled with the congressmen's
version in the bicameral conference.
The plenary debate has reportedly been delayed
by differences among senators on the tax breaks to be granted
to biofuel producers.

to join travel
mart in Shanghai
The Department of Tourism will participate in the
China International Travel Mart on November 16 to 19 at the Shanghai
New International Expo Centre.
CITM, organized by the China National Tourism Administration,
is one of the most anticipated travel trade in China held interchangeably
between the cities of Shanghai and Kunming. In 2005, the event
was held in Kunming and attracted more than 3,100 exhibitors,
1,125 of whom from overseas.
Tourism Undersecretary Eduardo Jarque Jr. said
in a memorandum to DOT-accredited members that prior to the CITM,
the DOT will hold the Philippine Travel Exchange on November 15
them provide the opportunity to meet and interact with the Chinese
travel trade sector.
