Forty intellectually-disabled athletes from Negros Occidental will vie for the golds in the 11th National Games of Special Olympics Philippines from Nov. 6-8 at the Ultra in Pasig City.

The Negrense athletes, who will be accompanied by their delegation head and 10 coaches, will compete in basketball, bocce, athletics, bowling, badminton and powerlifting. Joax Benedicto, president of the SOP-Negros Occidental Chapter, said the Bacolod Special Education Center will have the most number of athletes with 21 seeing action in the different events.

Bacolod SPED brought home the overall championship of the 1st SOP-NOC Provincial Games last month when it grabbed 14 gold medals in the event that is only open for intellectually-disabled athletes.

Panasonic bowlfest on

The 7th Panasonic Trio Invitational Bowling Tournament unfolds tonight at the New Top's Millennium Plaza Bowling Alley in Bacolod City.

Elmer Feliciano, branch manager, of the organizing appliance company said cash prizes and a trophy each awaits the top four winners in three divisions to be contested. At stake for the champion in class A division are P10,000; P8,000, first runner-up; P7,000 and P6,000 for second and third runners-up.

The winners in bracket B will receive P5,000, champion; P4,000, first runner-up; P3,000, second, and P2,000, third. In the women's department, the champion will receive P8,000; first runner-up, P5,000 and second and third placers P4,000 and P3,000 respectively.

Fyr Fyter dumps Supertech

Fyr Fyter Marketing drubbed Supertech Machine Shop, 81-68, for its second victory Monday night in the 3rd Conference of the Fil-Sino Inter-color Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Marvin Ortiz amassed all of his 11 points in the third quarter, leading Fyr Fyter to a 65-48 buffer entering the payoff period after a slim 41-38 advantage at halftime.

Backstopping Ortiz in the period was Irvin Llacer with 5 points, while Melvin Joseff Baclay carried the scoring load for Fyr Fyter with 7 markers to preserve the win. In the other encounter, Summit Mineral Water posted another come-from-behind victory by rallying past BA Oriental Tire Supply, 74-70, for its third straight win after losing its opening game.
