Hold 2007 elections
as scheduled: Tuting
BY RENE GENOVE

Dumaguete Mayor Agustin Perdices said he supports a proposal to move the election next year from May to November instead of holding it sometime in 2010 although he clarified he wants it as scheduled.

Perdices was reacting to a proposal by a congressman from Mindanao to hold elections in 2010 in the wake of reports that next year's polls might be postponed. The mayor said he believes that majority of Filipinos want the elections to take place as scheduled next year based on Constitutional mandate.

Moving the polls to November instead of May next year would require amending the provision of the Constitution that provides the holding of elections on a specific date. He said that, as of now many politicians have expressed their intention to run.

On his plan to contest the gubernatorial seat, Perdices said he was unsure if he would push ahead with it.

He said there were still many things to consider before he would decide, and that, he still has enough time to weigh any decision including getting the opinion of his partymates and the pulse of the people.

Perdices said he was thankful for those who pledged their support to his plan to run for governor.*RG
