Nominations on for OWWA
model OFW family search

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Central Visayas said nominations for the search for the "Model OFW Family of the Year Award 2006" should be submitted to OWWA not later than October 20, a press release from the agency said.

Now on its second year, the award also recognizes the ultimate results of OFW family success in terms of enterprise development and generation of employment opportunities. The press release said that OFW families residing in Region 7 (Cebu, Bohol , Oriental Negros and Siquijor) with either a land-based or sea-based OFW as head of the family (whether father or mother), and who meet the criteria can be nominated.

An OFW should have a minimum of four years of overseas employment; known as a solid/stable family in the locality; has at least a child who graduated from a baccalaureate degree; has prudent management of savings; and currently enjoying sustained income from investment on any entrepreneurial activity, the press release said.

Religious leaders or groups, non-government organizations, and community-based social or civic organizations may nominate awardees.

The names and supporting documents of nominees should be submitted to OWWA, Regional Welfare Office 7, Mezzanine Floor, LDM Bldg., cor. M.J. Cuenco Ave. and Legaspi St. Cebu City, not later than Oct. 20, the press release added.*RG
