POLICE SAY
2 nabbed NPA leaders
may face rebellion raps

The police may file rebellion charges against the two suspected New People's Army leaders captured by soldiers Friday in Brgy. Bandila, Toboso, Negros Occidental.

The two may also be included in robbery-in-band charges for their participation in the raid of Malasibog police outpost in Escalante City on March 19, Senior Inspector Argel Ancheta, intelligence chief of the Negros Occidental police, said.

Captured Friday were Dionesio Sabanal, alias Ka Nonoy, and Rowell Vergara, alias Ka Rudy.

Lt. Col. Felicisimo Budiongan, Task Group North commander, said a .45 caliber pistol with five magazines containing ammunition was recovered from Sabanal, a squad leader of the NPA Larangan Gerilya 3 operating in northern Negros.

Vergara, on the other hand, admitted being the finance and logistic officer LG 3 of the NPA at tactical interrogations, Budiongan said.

Budiongan claimed that Sabanal and Vergara had participated in the raid of Malasibog police outposts on March 19 in Escalante City, and in the burning of the Alter Trade cargo truck in Brgy. Bandila, Toboso last month, citing witnesses.

Nine firearms, including an M-60 machine gun, were taken by rebels from the police outpost in Escalante City, police records show.

Ancheta also said charges for illegal possession of firearms will be filed against Sabanal for having in his possession an unlicensed .45 caliber pistol.*GPB
