The three-days Rodeo and Horse Show competition of 17-day 6th Buglasan Festival of Festivals will be held on Oct. 15-17 at the Governor Mariano Perdices Memorial Collesium, Capitol Area, in Dumaguete City.

Negrenses and visitors to the festival will be treated to three days of rodeo fun during the annual rodeo and horse show contest, Solomon Cadiz of the Provincial Veterinary Office said.

For an entrance fee of P5 each day, spectators can watch various competitions, including non-cattle events such as tug of war and cock carambola, he said.

Up to press time yesterday, the five teams from the local government units in the province continued their participation in the horse show event. These are Zamboanguita, Bayawan, Mabinay, Tanjay, Dumaguete and Pamplona.

For the rodeo competition, nine teams have already signed up for the student category while six professional teams for the open level.

These student and professional teams are from all over the country, including local colleges offering agricultural courses such as Foundation University, Silliman University and the Negros Oriental State University.

City Veterinarian Dr. Lourdes Socorro assured that animals used during the competitions are well protected and looked after as provided for by Republic Act 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act.

Meanwhile, the province has identified two television groups to promote the tourism potentials of Oriental Negros particularly during the Buglasan Festival.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has authorized Gov. George Arnaiz to sign an agreement with ABS-CBN and Living Asia Channel as the official coverage teams.

Each group will be paid P200,000 from the P400,000 budget allocated by the provincial council.

It is hoped that through the coverage of the two television networks, the Buglasan festival and other tourism potentials will expose the province to domestic and international visitors.

Earlier, Tourism Secretary Joseph Durano released P500,000 for the festival. Workers from different towns and cities are now building booths around the Capitol grounds to showcase the different tourism come-ons of each participating local government unit.*RG
