The Ilusorio and Muņoz Piano-Violin Duo will be presented
by the Negros Cultural Foundation and the Sacred Heart Seminary
Foundation at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, at the John Paul 2 Cultural Center,
Lupit Church, in Bacolod City, a press release from organizers said.
The event is in cooperation with the Cultural
Center of the Philippines-Outreach Program and the National Commission
for Culture and the Arts.
Chilean violinist Juan Luis Muņoz and Filipina
pianist Mariel Ilusorio partnered in 2005, and have performed in
critically-acclaimed concerts throughout South Africa, for various
music societies and festivals, the press release said.
They also organized their own chamber music series
at Rhodes University entitled "Juan, Mariel and Friends," whose
characters Juan and Mariel teach and live in Grahamstown with their
5-month-old daughter, Anita Mariel, the press release said.
Proceeds of the pre-Christmas fund-raising will
be used for the continued preservation of the Negros Museum and
the renovation and repairs of the John Paul 2 Cultural Center -
two significant landmarks in the Negrense cultural landscape.

researcher
eyes non-formal education
A researcher for the Center for British Teachers,
a London-based non-government-organization dedicated to promoting
educational improvement, paid a courtesy call on Bacolod Mayor Evelio
Leonardia recently, a City Hall press release said.
Briton Philip Shanahan said his visit was aimed
to convince more NGOs to promote the correct use of the English
language, through non-formal education.
Also present during Shanahan's visit were Alternative
Learning System teacher from Bacolod Eurlyne Pabalinas; Educational
Supervisor for Alternative Teaching-Department of Education Region
Office VI Editha Segubre; DepEd Bacolod City Schools Superintendent
Milagros Gonzales; senior economic development specialist National
Economic and Development Authority Leah Letrero; and Lourdes Miado
of NEDA Sr., the press release added.*

houses turned over
in Gawad Kalinga site
Sixteen houses were turned over recently to awardees
of the PLDT-SMART Amazing Gawad Kalinga Village in Barangay Sooc,
Arevalo, Iloilo City, a press release from PLDT said yesterday.
The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. and
its wireless subsidiary, Smart Communications, Inc., have committed
to jointly build 100 houses - to be completed by next year, in partnership
with the Gawad Kalinga Foundation and the Iloilo government.
The GK village is being built for the families
of the city's street children. More than 200 employee-volunteers
from PLDT, SMART, e-PLDT call center Ventus, and more than 200 students
from partner schools Western Visayas College of Science and Technology
and University of San Agustin in Iloilo helped build the houses,
the press release said.
The village in Iloilo is the sixth GK village that
the PLDT Group has adopted nationwide, the press release added.*
