2 school buildings donated

The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. and the Chamber donated a two-classroom school building to Ayungon Elementary School in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, recently, a press release from the FFCCCII said.

The donation was made by Mr. and Mrs. William Chua in memory of their late father, Mateo Chua, under the "Operation Barrio Schools" of the FFCCCII and Chamber.

Present at the turnover were Bonifacio Lui and Alfredo Lim of FFCCCII, Chamber officers headed by James Chua, La Carlota Mayor Jeffrey Ferrer, Vice Mayor Demi John Honorado, Councilor Luis Jalandoni III, Board Member Ike Barredo, Schools Division Supt. Angel Gilvas of Department of Education-La Carlota, and school principal Horacio Cabuguason Jr. with other school officials, the press release said.

Meanwhile, a two-classroom school building was also donated by Stik-O Company in memory of its founder, Ching Suy Eh, to the La Carlota North Elementary School.

The turnover ceremony was attended by FFCCCII and Chamber officials, Ferrer and school principal Melba Caņet, and other officials, the press release added.*

Bacolod to mark
world AIDS day

The Local AIDS Council of Bacolod City will celebrate the World AIDS Day on the theme "Stop AIDS, Keep the Promise" on December 1, a City Hall press release said.

A Mass at 7 a.m. will be sponsored by HOPE Foundation, followed by a motorcade around downtown Bacolod to be spearheaded by the LAC, in partnership with the Kabataan Gabay sa Positibong Pamumuhay Inc., and a program at the BAYS Center is set 9 a.m.

Denia Heballes will disseminate information and education campaign materials in different malls in the city, the press release said. Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia has signed Executive Order No. 10 creating the Bacolod City Local AIDS Council, to implement Republic Act 8504, or the Philippine AIDS Prevention and Control Act of 1998 .

The council serves a central local policy-making body for the prevention, control and support services on HIV/AIDS. Leonardia chairs the council, with city health officer Edgardo Estrella as vice-chairperson, and the members from government agencies are the Sangguninag Panlungsod Committee on Health and on Women, Sangguniang Kabataan, CHO Social Hygiene, Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Education-Bacolod, Commission on Human Rights, Department of Labor and Employment, City Population Office, City Prosecutor's Office, Department of Social Services and Development, City Tourism Office, Bacolod City Police Office and the Public Information Office, the press release said.

Other members are DAWN Foundation, HOPE Foundation, Family Planning Organization of the Philippine-Negros Occidental Chapter, Kiwanis Club of Metro Bacolod and the Negros Press Club, the press release added.*
