The Zonta International District 17 Area 3 meeting
will be hosted by Zonta Club of Bacolod on Nov. 24-25, at the L'Fisher
Hotel in Bacolod City with 130 delegates from the 11 Zonta clubs
in Visayas and Mindanao expected to attend, a press release from
the group said.
A welcome dinner at the Provincial Capitol Social
Hall with Antique Gov. Sally Zaldivar Perez as the guest of honor
will kick off the event.
Host area director Ofelia Servando will give the
opening address and Mayor Evelio Leonardia will officially welcome
the delegates and guests, the press release said.
Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella and Vice Gov.
Isidro Zayco will give messages, while District 17 Gov. Virma Vergel
de Dios will deliver a message from Zonta International.
There will be panel speakers on the second day. The
meeting will close with a memorial service, a closing dinner at
the Plantazionne Clubhouse, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, with
a dance presentation and a parade of costumes, the press release
said. The club currently has 33,000 members from 68 countries. The
first Filipino and Asian Zonta International president is Olivia
Ferry from Zonta Club of Makati and Environs, the press release
added.*

sets musical tribute
A musical play, "Thunder in the Distance" on the
life of Fr. Vincent Lebbe will be shown Nov. 30, Dec.1 and 2, at
7 p.m., at the St. John's Activities Center, St. John's Institute
in Bacolod City, a press release from event organizers said yesterday.
The musical tribute, directed by Rene Hinojales,
is a launching project of Msgr. John Liu for the benefit of monks
at the Lux Mundi School in Murcia, Negros Occidental.
SJI alumni, members of the Amity Rescue Group,
parishioners and the community, among others, comprise the 200-member
cast of the show. Fr. Noly Que is the executive producer while Frs.
Garry Fuentebella and Junerl Salugsugan are co-executive producers,
the press release said.
Lebbe, a disciple, priest and martyr, was born
in August, 1877 to Fermin and Louise Lebbe of Belgian-French origin.
He loved the seminary life and went to the Vincentian Seminary of
St. Lazare in Paris. When he learned to write his name in Chinese,
he picked out Lei Ming-Yuen which means "the thunder that sings
in the distance," as his name, the press release said.
After various mission works in Europe and China,
Lebbe died at 63 on June 24, 1940, the Feast of St. John the Baptist,
also the feast of the Blessed Jean Gabriel Perboyre, the press release
added.*
