MILITANT ORGANIZER'S SLAY
Anakbayan claim
baseless -- Army
BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The military yesterday dismissed as "baseless" the claims of Anakbayan, a youth group of Bayan-Muna, that Army men were behind the death of one of its organizers in Guihulngan, Oriental Negros.

Lt. Col. Jess Manangquil, 11th Infantry Battalion commander, yesterday said, "summary killings are counter-productive and we are not engaged in it".

Anakbayan organizer Pedro Angkon was gunned down by two unidentified suspects on May 16, while he was working at his vulcanizing shop in Brgy. Hilaitan, an upland barangay of Guihulngan in Oriental Negros.

counterpart put up

Students in Valencia town will soon enjoy better facilities with the local government sourcing out counterpart funds to the P24-million Secondary Education Development and Improvement Project for the construction of new secondary school buildings.

In a press release, Valencia Mayor Rodolfo Gonzalez Jr. said he wanted to avail of the entire P24-million SEDIP fund for Valencia, by putting up a counterpart of P8-million, or 25 percent, to the program, being financed by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and Asian Development Bank.

The municipality already put up an initial amount of P1 million to counterpart the P3.5 two-storey, four-classroom building construction at the Valencia National High School.

training conducted
BY RENE GENOVE

Youth leaders in Valencia, Oriental Negros, were taught to be entrepreneurs to help their families and improve their economic plight during a one-day youth livelihood development seminar held recently at the municipal session hall.

The seminar was aimed at enriching the youth's knowledge and capabilities in practical livelihood-undertakings and to be more competitive in their entrepreneurial skills, local operations officer Ruby Noblefranca said.

It also supports the thrust of the administration of Mayor Rodolfo Gonzalez to have a pool of skilled individuals who can be tapped for employment.
