The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry will host the
2006 ASEAN Business and Investment Summit on Dec. 8 to 10 in Cebu
City, a press release from PCCI said.
Now on its fourth year, the event, spearheaded by the ASEAN
Business Advisory Council, will bring together business and industry
leaders and government officials in ASEAN, China, Japan, Korea,
India and the United States in a three-day exchange of views on
the ASEAN economic integration initiative and global trends in trade
and business development.
It will be held alongside the ASEAN Summit, the annual meeting
of the ASEAN Heads of States/Governments.
This year's theme, "One Caring and Sharing Community: Connecting
ASEAN Businesses to the World," is reflective of ASEAN's desire
to create the ASEAN Economic Community that is outward-looking and
bonded in partnership in dynamic development.
The conference's programme will showcase market and business
opportunities in the region and will feature ample opportunities
for local businesses to network with the regional and global business
players.
Donald Dee, PCCI president and chairman of the organizing committee,
said the 4th ASEAN-BIS will look into the potential of Southeast
Asia as a market to be involved in.
Jose Concepcion, Jr., chairman of the ASEAN-BAC, said the
event is a golden opportunity for ASEAN businesses to take advantage
of regional integration.
Companies can diversify both their products and markets while
seeking new ventures capable of serving the ASEAN regional market,
he said.
ASEAN has a market of over 500 million people and represents one
of the most dynamic and diverse regions in the world. It has a combined
gross domestic product of $737 billion, and a total trade of $720
billion.*
