Capitol offers help
to rescued minors
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Gov. Joseph Maraņon yesterday said the provincial government is prepared to assist the minors rescued from a junkshop in Cebu in whatever way it can to ensure that they will be able to return to school.

Whatever cannot be covered by the local government, the provincial government will augment, he said.

Thirty-two Hinobaan residents, 15 of whom are minors, rescued from a junkshop in Cebu, returned to their homes in the southernmost town of Negros Occidental Tuesday, Provincial Social Welfare Office Liane Garcia said yesterday.

The children, who returned to Negros, said there are still many others still working at the junkshop under sub-human conditions, she said. They were not paid properly and were deprived of adequate food, the rescued Hinobaan residents disclosed.*CPG
