4 killed, 17 injured
in two mishaps
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Four persons were killed and 17 others were injured in separate road accidents in Negros Occidental and Iloilo in the last two days. A driver of a cargo truck and a student of the Philippine Normal University died, while four others were injured following a triple collision yesterday in Brgy. Paraiso, Sagay City.

The fatalities were identified by the police as Joemarie Leones, a driver of a prime mover trailer cargo truck, and Dona Belle Aro, 17, a female student of the PNU in Cadiz City.

Information gathered by RGMA Super Radyo at the crime scene showed that the traffic accident involved a Ford cargo truck, a prime mover trailer driven by Leones, and a mini-bus.

Police investigations showed that the Cadiz-bound mini-bus driven by Ramonito Ignacio, who picked up a passenger in front of BPI in the barangay, was hit by the Ford cargo truck that reportedly lost control.

Supt. William Seņoron, Sagay police chief, yesterday said the prime mover and the mini bus came from Sagay, while the cargo truck loaded with sugarcane was on its way to the Lopez Sugar Central, when the accident took place.

After hitting the mini-bus, the cargo truck also had a head-on collision with the trailer driven by Leones, who was pinned to death at the driver's seat, Seņoron said.

The injured victims, whose identities were not established as of press time, were brought to the St. Anne Medical Center by responding rescuers from the Sagay City government.*GPB

Two persons were also killed and 13 others were injured when a cargo truck rammed into the sleeping quarters of construction workers in Cabatuan town in Iloilo Tuesday evening.

The cargo truck was on its way to Barangay Tiring in Cabatuan, 24 kilometers north of Iloilo City, when the driver, Rene Singelecio, lost control as he was negotiating a curve along the national road.

The truck swerved to the right shoulder of the road hitting the canteen and sleeping quarters of the workers at around 10:25 p.m.

The workers are among those constructing the new Iloilo International Airport in Cabatuan and Sta. Barbara towns.

Reports from the Iloilo Provincial Police Office identified the fatalities as workers Federico Hollero, 35, of Sibunag town, Guimaras Province and Jason Dayaday, 27, of Cebu City.

Hollero was pronounced dead on arrival at the Ramon Tabiana District Hospital in Cabatuan, while Dayaday died while undergoing treatment.

The injured who were taken to the hospital for treatment included Singelecio and his helper Efraim Azucena.

Also wounded were Tomas Danoy, 35; Nestor Cabrera, 42; Ronnie Sincida, 21; Eljen Ebrado, 25; and Antonio Gentapa, 45, all of Cebu; Jerry Catalbas, 35, of Guimaras; Rodolfo Villamar, 53, of Cardona town in Rizal; Isidro Barquillo, 41, of Dumarao town in Capiz; Dondon Jorda, 29, of Leyte; Juanito Abegonia, 32, of Anilao town in Iloilo, and Marcelino Sebastian, 37, of Dingle town, Iloilo.*GPB/NPB
