Tornado victims get help
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Bacolod City government is providing cash assistance to the tornado victims in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said those, whose houses were destroyed, will receive P3,000 in cash. Assistance to residents whose houses were only damaged will depend on the extent of damage.

A tornado struck five houses in Puroks Kasilingan and Laurel in Brgy. Mansilingan at about 1:30 p.m. Monday just before a downpour.

The houses of Laila Arsenal including that of Jupiter, Jorge and Joel, all surnamed Almonia, in Purok Kasilingan were damaged, while that of Celieta Martie in Purok Laurel was destroyed.

Brgy. Captain Tommy Inventor said he was not able to inspect the house of Martir yesterday because of the rains. He said that aside from the five houses, he has not received reports of other properties that have been damaged or destroyed by the tornado.

Inventor said that when he inspected the houses of the Almonia brothers Tuesday, the wife of Jupiter Almonia claimed that it rained "ice" during the downpour. However, he has no way to determine the veracity of the report, he said.

Inventor said the Mansilingan Barangay Council will also provide the victims P3,000 worth of construction materials for the repair of their houses. He required the victims to submit the estimated cost of materials needed for the repair, he said.*CGS
