Big field seen in
USLS 7-a-side tournament
BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

Fifteen squads will see action in the 2nd University of St. La Salle Varsity and Alumni Football Team 7-aside tournament that takes centerstage Saturday at the USLS pitch in Bacolod City.

USLS-A North aims to defend its championship in the men's division. The visiting Central Philippine University-Iloilo side is eyeing its second consecutive crown in women's play.

UVAFT officer-in-charge Rani Teresa Alisan said the competing teams in the men's category will be grouped into two brackets, while the women's hostilities will adopt a single round-robin format.

The top two squads of each bracket in the men's competitions will advance to the crossover semifinals, while the top four teams in the women's division after the eliminations will obtain seats in the knockout stages, Alisan added.

Cash prizes and trophies will be given to the top three winners in both the men and women's categories, she said, adding that each squad should have a maximum of 12 booters with at least one head coach.

Also vying for the championship in the men's hostilities are La Salle-B and C, West Negros College-A, B and C, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos A and B, Ramos Football Club-Cebu, Lupa Boys Bacolod, Sagay City FC-A and B, La Carlota City FC, Talisay City FC and Sta. Clara 319.

Challenging the lady booters of CPU-Iloilo will be USLS, Inter Mulbachs, San Carlos City FC and Cebu-based University of San Carlos-Varsity.

The one-day football festival, which is organized by La Salle coach Freddie Lazarito, is being sponsored by UVAFT in cooperation with the USLS Vice-president for Administration Office, USLS Varsity Sports Office and the Sports Enthusiasts Association of Negros. *CIT
