The Sagay City government, headed by Mayor Leo Rafael
Cueva and Vice Mayor Joseph Gerard Maraņon, is holding the annual
community outreach program called "Oplan Paglilingkod" in 24 barangays,
a Sagay press release said.
The program, now on its eighth year, is the brainchild
of former city mayor and now Gov. Joseph Maraņon for the delivery
of basic services to Sagaynons.
Services rendered include health -- medical consultations
and operation, bloodletting, and circumcision; social welfare -
distribution of PhilHealth Insurance cards; agricultural - distribution
of seeds and farmers' forum; veterinary -- livestock dispersal,
immunization, artificial insemination, among others; civil registration
-- birth and marriage registration; and environmental -- consultation
on Sagay Marine Reserve protection program with fisherfolk and issuance
of sea ranch permits, the press release added.*

livelihood projects
inaugurated in Victorias
Rep. Jose Carlos Lacson (3rd District, Negros Occ.)
inaugurated various infrastructure and livelihood projects in Victorias
City recently, a press release from his office said.
The recipient of a multi-purpose hall and waiting
shed projects were the Victorias Milling Elementary School and Barangay
14 Core House. A set of mobile rice mill and two stand fans, on
the other hand, were given to the OPYA Farmers Cooperative in Hda.

Also present at the turnover of projects were Sangguniang
Panlungsod Members Boy Montinola and Malaga, Department of Public
Works and Highways engineer Emmanuel Abaygar, Barangay Captain Imelda
Linga and other village officials, and the officers and members
of the school and farmers cooperative, the press release added.*

Debate
on
TV launching set
Sunshine Channel Cable TV 14 will launch a program
"I Debate" to be hosted by lawyer Ralph Sarmiento from 5 to 6 p.m.
today, a press release from the channel said.
This is the first debate tournament on television
and tonight's topic is, "Resolve that same sex marriage be allowed
in the Philippines" with debaters Mate Espina, Gil Severino, lawyer
Enrique Barcelona and Edgar Magbanua.
Sarmiento, a faculty of the University of St.
La Salle College of Law, said the program seeks "to institutionalize
argumentation and debate as a regular event on television and as
a vital exercise for a free and modern society which, should even
be a national sport," the press release said.
The program will be aired live from 5 to 6 p.m.
on Thursdays, and replayed 8 to 9 p.m. Saturdays, 4 to 5 p.m. Sundays,
and 8 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays. It will also feature a weekly live
debate match between two high school teams starting with preliminary
matches in June.
It will be followed by semifinal matches with the
last two surviving teams to face each other in the final season,
Sarmiento said. The program will also have special episodes outside
the tournament which will feature debates on issues by people other
than students, the press release added.*
