Foundation needs
sorters of peanuts
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Oriental Negros has enough supply of unshelled peanuts, Grace Dizon of the Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Foundation said yesterday.

She said at present, 8 tons of unshelled peanuts are available to ready markets in Manila, Cebu and Bohol.

With the volume of supply at present, Dizon said, the Foundation needs sorters.

A sorter is paid P2 for every kilo of peanuts and at an average of 8 kilos a day, will only get P16 a day.

The provincial government is eyeing the purchase of a mechanized system in sorting the peanuts produced by farmers. Suggestions were also raised to utilize the inmates at the provincial jail in sorting the peanuts, but this needs approval of Gov. George Arnaiz. Dizon said this will give detainees extra money for their daily needs.*JG
