Gov. Joseph Maraņon, officials of the Department
of Agrarian Reform, the police, and landowners met yesterday to
discuss measures to prevent violence in the implementation of
land reform in Negros Occidental.
Maraņon said a new Memorandum of Agreement among
all stakeholders is being proposed to ensure the peaceful implementation
of land reform in the province.
DAR Regional Director Alexis Arsenal said a landowners
desk will be created so if there are problems the people there
will be the ones we will contact to thresh out problems. 


House
starts inquiry
on CTPL insurance
The House committee on transportation, headed by
Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella, yesterday started its inquiry
on the proposal of the Government Service Insurance System to
take over the Compulsory Third Party Liability insurance for private
vehicles, a press release from solon's office said.
The move of the GSIS was earlier exposed Sen. Juan
Ponce Enrile, prompting the insurance sector, particularly the
Philippine Insurers and Reinsurers Association, to criticize GSIS.
Both Leyte Rep. Eduardo Velasco and PIRA Chairman
Ramon Dimacali said the proposal of GSIS is contrary to its charter
considering that the insurance is private in nature. 


Deadline
for BPO work
scholarships set May 26
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority
Negros Occidental Provincial Office announced that the deadline
for registration of applicants for the PGMA Training for Work
Scholarships will be tomorrow, May 26.
The scholarship is open to those applying for jobs
in the business process outsourcing industry, 18 to 55 years old,
who are at least high school graduate.
TESDA Region VI has 300 slots available for call
center agents and 150 slots for medical transcriptionists.
