FDC: CENECO fails
to answer issue

The Freedom from Debt Coalition said in a statement yesterday that the Central Negros Electric Cooperative failed to answer the issue on its questionable acquisition of the 30 MVA substation in Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod City in its letter to the National Electrification Administration.

The question on the irregularities and high questionable transaction made by CENECO was not yet justified and cleared, the group said, because Board president Eddie Guillem did not respond to the issue on how the project was approved and awarded to contractor, Power Star Inc., and how the latter was paid.

Call center to employ
350 agents this year

The iSolutions Outsource Asia Inc., the first call center in Bacolod City, hopes to employ 350 call center agents by the end of 2006, its president and general manager Fernando Gonzalez said yesterday.

Gonzalez said that at present, the company has 54 agents or interaction specialists. "We are processing the hiring of 30 more right now for the second batch. After everybody settles in, we will plan for the next batch," he said.

Gonzalez said that as much as possible, the company wants to hire local people. He said it is also their objective to bring back people to Bacolod. "With our operation in the city, we are giving the Negrenses working in other places the opportunity to come back," he added. I/O Asia, located at the East Block Business Park beside Lopue's East, is a full-service contact center that provides agent-assisted and automated telephone and internet services.

Rice black bug
infestation continues - DA

ILOILO CITY - Agriculture officials said the rice black bugs continue to attack plantations in Iloilo even as they have stepped up measures to prevent the spread of the infestation.

Agriculture regional executive director Jindra Linda Demeterio said the infestation has been "contained" but said it is not over.

She said the infestation should be constantly monitored and urged farmers to be vigilant.

The bug (Scotinophara coarctata), also known as the Malaysian black bug, attacks rice stems and yam.
