The Silliman University Faculty Union in Dumaguete City is poised to file a notice to strike against the administration that it claimed had violated provisions of their Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The union is expected to file the notice to strike Monday before the National Conciliation and Mediation Board in Cebu City, after which, a 15-day cooling off period will start for the union members to conduct the strike vote in the presence of a representative of the Department of Labor and Employment.

SUFA union president, Vic Aguilan, said the university was supposed to comply with the supplemental increase agreement at the end of the first semester in March this year, based on the hike in the number of students retroactive in June of last year.

A mother of an Overseas Filipino Worker is seeking the help of the Department of Labor and Employment to determine the fate of her daughter working in Kuwait, who was allegedly prevented by her employer from coming home.

Eleuteria Alagao, told DOLE personnel in Dumaguete City, that her daughter, Margarita, 28, had ended her two-year employment contract in February yet.

Eleuteria said her daughter told her on the phone last February that her employer kept on delaying her schedule to leave, which made her very uneasy because she already wanted to go home. She added that Teresa, Margarita's younger sister who works as a sales lady in a department store in Manila, also expressed concern when she could no longer get in touch with Margarita through her cellular phone.

as car rams post

A traffic accident early yesterday morning plunged portions of Dumaguete City into darkness when a speeding red Toyota Vios car rammed into the post of the Negros Oriental II Electric Cooperative, at the corner of Aldecoa and Real streets cutting off electric power, communication and cable TV lines.

The car was a total wreck but the driver survived without a scratch due to the airbag of the car.

The driver, Jose Elnar, 23, single, of Sta. Catalina, Oriental Negros, said he was trying to avoid a motorcycle that cut across his way in the intersection, and he quickly swerved the car to the left hitting the electric post.
