Ranger injured in
Kabankalan encounter
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A member of the Army's elite Scout Rangers who is from Kabankalan City, was injured yesterday in an encounter with suspected New People's Army guerillas in Tapaz, Capiz.

Capt. Renante Besa, 3rd Infantry Division information officer, identified the injured soldier as a certain Cpl. Quilayco, who is assigned at the 3rd Scout Ranger Company.

The 3rd Scout Ranger Company which forms part of the 1st Scout Ranger Battalion, was assigned in Negros in previous months before its transfer to Panay.

Besa said the running gunbattle between Scout Rangers and red fighters of the Central Front Committee of the Panay Island Regional Party Committee was still going on last night.

The New People's Army, which marked its 37th founding anniversary on March 29, has vowed to unleash more attacks against government forces nationwide.

Besa said they have yet to determine the number of injured rebels because darkness hampered their pursuit operations against the rebels.*GPB
