Two local transport groups are asking Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph
Maraņon to bring to the attention of the President their request
for the re-opening of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory
Board extension office in Bacolod City.
The United Negros Drivers and Operators Center and the Federation
of Bacolod City Drivers Association, in their joint letter appeal
dated March 28, said there are 106,241 registered motor vehicles
in the province and in Bacolod City that needs the services of the
LTFRB extension office. It said a great number of these registered
vehicles are public utility vehicles.
The letter, addressed to Presidential Assistant Ariel Lim
of the Public Transport Office of the Office of the President, was
signed by UNDOC Secretary general Jessie Ortega and FEBACDA president
Elizabeth Katalbas.
Both groups claimed they had written LTFRB chairperson Ma.
Elena Bautista requesting her to re-open the LTFRB extension office
in Bacolod. Although Bautista wrote FEBACDA, assuring them that
a mobile LTFRB office will be established in the city, she denied
UNDOC's request.
Ortega said they have decided to seek the assistance of Maraņon
because of the complaints they have received from drivers. They
are asking the Governor to help them resolve the problem.*CGS
