Panique seeks another
tri-mountain race title
BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

About 150 long distance runners are expected compete in the 8th 21-Kilometer Tri-Mountain Resort Marathon that kicks off at 6 a.m. tomorrow at the Kipot resort in Bago City.

From Kipot, the competing marathoners will proceed to the Buenos Aires mountain resort before finishing at Guintubdan, Ignacio Denila, executive assistant of the Bago City Mayor's Office, said yesterday.

Leading the field is defending champion Eric Panique of Himamaylan City as he aims to retain his crown against long-distance runners from Antique and Iloilo and from the cities of Cadiz, Escalante, Victorias, Silay and La Carlota.

The champion of the event, which is sponsored by the Bago City local government headed by Mayor Janet Torres, will receive P10,000, while the first and second runners-up will be given P7,000 and P5,000, respectively, Denila, who assists in the organization of the marathon, said.

The third, fourth, fifth and sixth runners-up will have P4,000, P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000, he said, adding that a marathon in the 15-Under category will also be exclusively staged for Bago runners.

Bago, which topped the Negros relay marathon last year, is holding the tri-mountain resort event annually, Denila said. *CIT
