Pa, daughter nabbed
for shabu possession

A 59-year-old man and his daughter were arrested by the Bacolod drug operatives for alleged possession of suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia in Purok Mahigugma-on, Brgy. 22, Bacolod City at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Lucien Chavez, alias "Butchok", and his daughter, Raquel, 26, were apprehended by the Bacolod City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, police reports said.

The CAIDSOTG swooped down on the Chavez residence on the strength of a search warrant issued by Judge Napoleon Diamante of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities, Branch 3, police reports said.

Recovered from them were four sachets of suspected shabu, a plastic straw and P300 in cash, police reports said.

The Bacolod drug operatives also arrested Domingo Vasquez Arbis, 41, of Purok Kapawa, Brgy. Sum-ag who happened to be in the Chavez's residence during the operation. Recovered from Arbis was a small sachet of suspected shabu, police reports said.

Meanwhile, Juvy Dorio, alias "Neneng Lausa", of Purok Riverside, Brgy. Villamonte was also collared by the CAIDSTOG for alleged possession of a sachet of suspected shabu in her residence at about 2 p.m. yesterday, police reports said.

The Chavezes, Arbis and Dorio are now detained in the lock-up cell of the Bacolod police office, police reports said.*DMG

Dads commend Talisay
cops for busting robbers

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental recently commended the Talisay police for foiling the attempt of a robbery-hold-up group to rob a rice retailer, arresting two suspects while neutralizing another one on March 24.

Supt. Jerry Bartolome, Talisay police chief, yesterday said charges for illegal possession of firearms and explosives were filed against the arrested suspects, Gary Hojella and Efren Tambong, companions of Jimmy Hojella who was shot by the police when he was seen pulling out a fragmentation grenade from his pocket.

The slain Hojella was positively identified as the gunman who shot dead Kagawad Roy Villaflor and robbed him of P200,000 in Brgy. Ma-ao, Bago City, last year, police records show.

Police investigations showed that the group of Hojella brothers led by Rodelio Oliveros, alias Ka Jim, was also planning to rob a rice retailer in Talisay City on March 24, shortly before Gary and Tambong were arrested, which also led to the killing of Jimmy.

Board Member Reynaldo Depasucat, in his resolution co-sponsored by Board Member Francis Gerard Tuvilla, and approved by the SP during their regular session on Wednesday, commended Bartolome and members of the Talisay PNP Alert Team, for the immediate arrest of the two suspected hold-uppers, and the recovery of three unlicensed firearms and a fragmentation grenade.

Because of the immediate response of the Talisay police, the Ma-ao robbery-slay incident has been declared solved and what could have been another bloody robbery-hold-up incident was thwarted, the resolution said.

Negros Occidental police director Charles Calima had justified the use of "necessary force" against the group of Ka Jim.

Police investigations show that Oliveros, a rebel returnee, has pending arrest warrants for murder, robbery with homicide and rape in Bago City, Negros Occidental.*GPB
