COURAGE holds assembly

The Confederation for Unity, Recognition and Advancement of Government Employees will hold its 1st Provincial Assembly, at 9 a.m. today, at the Sugar Workers Livelihood Center, Gatuslao St., in Bacolod City, a COURAGE press release said yesterday.

The theme of the assembly is "Further Strengthened Solidarity, Defend Job Security, Advance the Struggle Militant, Progressive and Nationalist Union, and Face the Challenge for Social Transformation," it also said.

The guest speaker will be Ferdinand Gaite, COURAGE national president, who will take up issues affecting government workers, the P3,000 across-the-board salary increase, and government reorganizations that the group believes will retrench about 400,000 employees, the press release added.*

Store opening slated

The Gaisano Super Store in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, is set to open in late April or early May, a press release from the Kabankalan government said yesterday.

The 3-storey supermarket with a floor area of 15,000 square meters, and located at the corner of Tan Lorenzo St. and the national highway going to Mabinay town, in Oriental Negros, will have four escalators; a bingo area, furniture and cell phones sections in the lower ground floor; lease areas in the upper ground floor; department store at the second floor; and food court at the mezzanine, it also said.

The Gaisano-Kabankalan is the fourth Gaisano store in Negros Occidental. The two others are in Bacolod City and the other is in San Carlos City which opened in 2004, the press release added.*
